Rowers Earn Two Conference Honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University first varsity 8+ crew of Rachelle Purych, Lisa Deklau, Kelly Kramer, Danielle Widecrantz, Elizabeth Kantak, Jessica Hurlbert, Karen Verwey, Courtney Schrand, and coxswain Mallory Fisher earned this week’s Conference USA Boat of the Week honors and shared Big 12 Boat of the Week honors with Texas.

Competing in Alabama for the first time in program history against Alabama and UCF, the Mountaineers first varsity 8+ crew recorded a first-place finish with a time of 7:41.5, while competitors the Golden Knights and Crimson Tide recorded times of 7:43.2 and 7:52.1, respectively.

Among the five other varsity 8+ entries, WVU’s time was the fastest time of the day.

The Mountaineers return to action on April 13-14, at the Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
