Baseball Travels to Liberty

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU baseball team will play its final non-conference series of the season this weekend against Liberty at Liberty Baseball Stadium in Lynchburg, Va.

All three games will be broadcast on ESPN3, while a link to live stats is available via WVUsports.com.

WVU (18-16) snapped a three-game losing skid on Wednesday evening, defeating Youngstown State 5-1 at Hawley Field. Sophomore shortstop Taylor Munden was a single short of the cycle with two runs and two RBIs, while junior third baseman Ryan Tuntland had his sixth three-hit game of the season.

Sophomore left-hander Harrison Musgrave (4-1, 3.61 ERA) will start game one on the mound Friday (7 p.m.) for the Mountaineers, followed by junior right-hander Corey Walter (2-3, 4.50 ERA) on Saturday (4 p.m.) and sophomore left-hander John Means (3-2, 3.15 ERA) on Sunday (2 p.m.).

Liberty coach Jim Toman will counter on the mound with sophomore right-hander Carson Herndon on Friday, senior right-hander Brooks Roy on Saturday and junior right-hander Trey Lambert on Sunday. The Flames pitching staff has a 4.77 ERA, striking out 221 in 292.2 innings.

WVU has a team batting average of .296 with 22 home runs and 46 stolen bases, and the Mountaineers pitching staff carries a 3.96 ERA.

The Mountaineers are led at the plate by Tuntland, who is hitting .384 with six doubles, one triple, two homers and 18 RBIs. Sophomore center fielder Bobby Boyd is hitting .352 with seven doubles, one triple and 15 RBIs.

Liberty senior catcher Trey Wimmer is hitting .352 with 13 doubles, three triples, two homers and 26 RBIs, while senior infielder Bryan Aanderud is batting .315 with four doubles, one triple and 23 RBIs.

This will be the fourth meeting between the schools and the first since a split doubleheader in 1978.
