Track Heads to Larry Ellis Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team will travel to Princeton, N.J., to compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 19-20 at Weaver Stadium.

The Mountaineers are set to compete against 69 other collegiate teams, in addition to 25 plus track and field clubs that are sending athletes to the competition hosted by Princeton.

The hammer throw is the first field event with a scheduled start time of 3 p.m., while the 5,000-meter run is the first track event and is set to start at 5 p.m., on Friday. Competition will resume on Saturday with the shot put and the 4x100-meter relay beginning at noon.

Last weekend at the Patriot Open Invitational, WVU posted three first-place finishes and had three Mountaineers post personal-best marks. Katlyn Shelar recorded her second first-place finish in a row in the pole vault with a mark of 3.82, while Heather Adams won the hammer throw for the third meet in a row with a mark of 53.44 meters. Stormy Nesbit also took the long jump title with a leap of 5.86 meters.

Sarah Martinelli and Jordan Hamric led the distance team with top 20 finishes in the 1,500-meter run. Martinelli placed 10th with a time of 4:28.45, while Hamric came in 16th place with a time of 4:35.44.
