20 Track Athletes Named Academic All-Big 12
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team had 20 student-athletes named to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Track & Field First and Second Teams.
Senior Aubrey Moskal and sophomore Kelly Williams were two of 10 student-athletes to earn a perfect 4.0 GPA and a spot on the first team. Other first-team members include Sarah-Anne Brault, Sydney Cummings, Kiley Defibaugh, Jordan Hamric, Alex Klauke, Sarah Martinelli, Lauren Moskal, Allison Pettit, Hallie Portner, Alanna Pritts and Allison Tyree.
The Mountaineers had seven student-athletes garner second team distinction including Heather Adams, Stephanie Aldea, Rachel Buser, Arielle Gaither, Alison Kimble, Karissa Knabenshue and Chené Townsend.
A total of 78 men’s student-athletes were honored, including 59 on the first team and 19 on the second team, while 136 individuals were recognized on the women’s side with 106 earning first team recognition and 30 individuals collecting second team designations.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or through the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
