MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia senior Petra Zublasing snagged the Bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle at the 2013 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Fort Benning World Cup, today, in Fort Benning, Ga.

The three-time NCAA champion shot 185.6 in the final for the podium finish. Zublasing, an Appiano, Italy, native, advanced to the final following a second place, 418.1 (105.1, 104.1, 104.7, 104.2) showing in the qualification round.

Zublasing previously finished third in the women’s 10m air rifle at the 2011 ISSF Fort Benning World Cup, an achievement that secured her Olympic quota for the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

“It was nice to finish third today because this is the same World Cup I won my quota place in 2011,” Zublasing says. “I know most of the shooters here, and some of them are friends that I haven’t seen since the Olympics. I’m very happy.”

Sophomore Maren Prediger shot 123.5 in the final and finished sixth today. The Petersaurach, Germany, native, also finished sixth in the qualification round with a 416.5 (105.2, 103.3, 103.5, 104.5) score.

“Today was a great result for both of these shooters,” says WVU coach Jon Hammond. “It has been a long, hard semester, so I’m proud that they were able to focus in this match and advance to the final.”

The duo is coming off a great showing in air rifle at the 2013 NCAA Championships, as Zublasing successfully defended her 2012 title and finished first with a combined total of 701.7 (598, 103.7). Prediger also shot in the final and finished eighth with a 692.1 (591, 101.1) score.

China’s Liuxi Wu finished first with a 210.0 score in the final, and teammate Jing Chang placed second with a 207.7 total.

Zublasing will return to the range and shoot in the women’s 50m 3 positions qualification on May 10.
