MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU baseball team will take on Marshall in the rubber match of a season-long three-game series against on Marshall on Tuesday, May 14 at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
A radio broadcast will be on select affiliates of the Mountaineer Sports Network, with Morgantown affiliate WAJR 1440 AM serving as the flagship station. The game can be heard in Beckley on WWNR 101.1 FM and 620 AM.
The teams split the first two meetings with Marshall winning 8-0 in game one in Charleston and West Virginia taking game two 10-2 in Morgantown.
WVU (30-22, 12-9 Big 12) went 1-2 last week, dropping a series to TCU in Charleston. WVU won 2-0 in game one, before falling 7-4 in game two and 16-6 in game three.
Junior first baseman Ryan McBroom
led the Mountaineers at the plate with a 5-for-12 performance that included two runs, one double, one homer and five RBIs, while junior left fielder Jacob Rice
batted 5-for-11 with two runs.
Junior third baseman Ryan Tuntland
continues to lead WVU with a .345 batting average, 29 runs, eight doubles, one triple, three homers and 31 RBIs. McBroom has increased his batting average to .280, and is the team leader in doubles (16), home runs (11) and RBIs (43).
The Thundering Herd most recently dropped two of three to East Carolina last weekend in Beckley. They are led at the plate by senior outfielder Isaac Ballou, who is batting .316 with 15 doubles, two triples, 18 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Sophomore infielder Andrew Dundon carries a .301 batting average with six doubles and 10 stolen bases.
Marshall is hitting .259 as a team with 10 home runs and 45 stolen bases in 67 attempts. The pitching staff sports a 4.31 ERA and 357 strikeouts in 430.0 innings.
WVU has a 39-22 all-time mark against Marshall, and the Mountaineers have won 15 of the last 18 meetings with the Thundering Herd.
