STILLWATER, Okla. – The WVU baseball dropped its fifth consecutive game with a 5-0 loss to No. 16 Oklahoma State on Friday evening at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

With one game remaining in the regular season, WVU sits in fifth place in the Big 12 standings at 30-25 overall and 12-11 in Big 12 play. The win improves Oklahoma State’s record to 39-13 and 13-9, moving them into second place.

Oklahoma State left-hander Tyler Nurdin pitched a complete game shutout, allowing four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Sophomore left-hander John Means (4-4) dropped his fourth game of the year despite allowing just one hit entering the fifth inning. Means surrendered four runs, two earned, on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks in 4.1 innings.

Errors caught up to WVU in the bottom of the fifth as two errors in the field led to a five-run frame for Oklahoma State. A two-run single to right field by Donnie Walton highlighted the inning, as well as a double down the left field line by Randy McCurry. Means recorded a throwing error while fielding a sacrifice bunt with no outs, and junior third baseman Ryan Tuntland allowed a runner to reach base on a throwing error to first base.

Just a half-inning prior, West Virginia loaded the bases with one out, but was unable to bring home the game’s first run as Nurdin worked out of the jam.

The Mountaineers offense only had four hits on the night and suffered its sixth shutout of the year. Redshirt junior designated hitter Matt Frazer, senior catcher Alan Filauro, sophomore shortstop Taylor Munden and sophomore center fielder Bobby Boyd each had a base knock on Friday night.

Game three is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. The game can be heard on the Mountaineer Sports Network with the Morgantown affiliate WAJR 1440-AM serving as the flagship station.
