MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Big 12 Conference announced today the 2013-14 Championship Schedule, and West Virginia University will play host to the 2014 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, March 22, at the WVU Coliseum.
The championship is the first-ever Big 12 sponsored event held on WVU’s campus. Oklahoma, the two-time defending conference champions and the 2013 national runner-up, and Iowa State will make the trip to Morgantown.
“This is a great event for all Mountaineer fans, and I’m excited to welcome the conference to the WVU Coliseum,” says coach Jason Butts. “OU and ISU are great teams and will bring some excellent gymnastics to Morgantown. The Mountaineers will be ready to compete for their first Big 12 gymnastics title.”
The championship’s start time will be announced at a later date.
OU (2004, 2008-10, 2012-13) has won six Big 12 titles, while ISU claimed the wins in 2000 and 2006.
The top three finishers in each event are named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team. Following the competition, Gymnast, Newcomer, Event Specialist, Scholar-Athlete and Coach of the Year awards will be presented.
The Mountaineers scored 194.675 and finished third at the 2013 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship on March 23, at ISU’s Hilton Coliseum. Senior Kaylyn Millick
scored 39.2 points and finished second overall. She was named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team.
WVU (13-9, 1-3) completed the 2013 campaign with a fifth-place, 194.475 showing at the NCAA Morgantown Regional Championships on April 6 at the Coliseum. Among the 2014 returnees are rising seniors Hope Sloanhoffer
