MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior runner Jordan Hamric finished sixth in heat one Thursday night and qualified for the finals on Saturday in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2013 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

The Bruceton Mills, W.Va., native finished with a personal-best and school record breaking time of 10:06.47, which was the ninth best time overall between the two heats. This is the fourth time this season Hamric has broken the school record in the event.

"This was such an outstanding performance," coach Sean Cleary says. "We changed Jordan's tactics today. She has been running at the front of the pack all year, but today we discussed that she run in last and move through the field in the last few laps. She executed this to perfection.

"We are so happy with this run. I have a very good feeling that she will take advantage of this opportunity."

Hamric will run in her final event as a Mountaineer on Saturday, June 8 at 5:57 p.m., ET. ESPN3 and ESPNU will broadcast the meet live from 5-7 p.m., on Saturday.

Final results and a recap will be available on following the completion of the competition.
