227 Named to Big 12 Honor Roll

The Big 12 Conference released its 2013 Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll with a total of 227 West Virginia University student-athletes making the list. The conference recognizes all student-athletes at its member institutions during each semester with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Of the 227 WVU student-athletes recognized for their academic excellence, 39 registered a GPA of 4.0 in the spring semester.

The 39 Mountaineers named to the list with a perfect 4.0 GPA in the semester include: Brock Dykxhoorn (baseball), Jess Harlee (women’s basketball), Kyle Majnaric, Nate Majnaric, Michael Molinari (football), Gina Costa, Marina Galante (gymnastics), Alexandra Basil, Kaitlyn Eason, Mary Ignatiadis, Kelly Kramer, Jeannine McCarty, Rachelle Purych, Courtney Schrand, Ellen Shular (rowing), Carly Black, Kara Blosser, Ali Connelly, Nicolette DeLaurentis, Amanda Hill, Bri Rodriguez, Frances Silva, Caroline Szwed (women’s soccer), David Palley, Katie Murto, Sloan Storie, Haily VandePoel, Jenelle Zee (swimming and diving), Aubrey Moskal, Kimberly Mulvin, Hallie Portner, Letitia Propst, Katlyn Shelar, Brittney Thomas, Kelly Williams (track/cross country), Liz Gulick (volleyball) and Lance Bryson, Bubba Scheffel and Tim Wheeling (wrestling).

The cross country/track and rowing teams led all Mountaineer teams with 39 and 33 honorees, respectively, on the honor roll. Other total student-athletes on the honor roll include football (28), women’s swimming and diving (22), women’s soccer (19), wrestling (16), baseball (14), gymnastics (13), men’s swimming and diving (13), volleyball (9), men’s basketball (7), women’s basketball (7) and women’s tennis (7).

More than 2,500 student-athletes each semester have been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the Conference’s 17-year tenure.
