OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Bryce Banuelos
and Daniela Neves
of West Virginia’s 2013 recruiting class have been representing their respective summer clubs at the U18 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships in Overland Park, Kan.
Banuelos, native of Elmhurst, Ill., and Team Chicago Academy-Botafogo concluded pool play in first place with seven points. They opened the week with a 2-1 victory over Montana’s Lou Fusz Wipke and followed the winning performance with a 0-0 tie against Connecticut FC. Team Chicago Academy-Botafogo concluded pool play with a 3-0 win earlier today. Banuelos gave her club an early 1-0 lead against Oklahoma FC in the third minute.
The Springfield, Va. native, Neves, and her summer club team VSA Heat Blue claimed the top spot in Pool B. After defeating FC United Select of Illinois, 2-1, earlier in the week, the Heat fell to Legends FC of California, 2-1. Pool play concluded for Neves and her club today with a 1-0 win over Leahi 95 Premier of Hawaii.
The two Mountaineer recruits will face off against each other in the championship match on Sunday, July 28, at 9:50 a.m. EST.
Banuelos comes to West Virginia University as a midfielder ranked No. 66 in ESPNHS’ Top 150. Neves, a forward, joined Banuelos on the Top-150 by ESPNHS and led the VSA Heat to the 2012 national championship.
