Women’s Basketball Big 12 Slate Announced

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Big 12 Conference has announced the 2013-14 women’s basketball schedule today.

“Playing in the Big 12 Conference means having a tough schedule year in and year out,” coach Mike Carey says. “At West Virginia, we love being a part of a challenging league and knowing we are going up against the nation’s best each night. I’m really looking forward to showcasing what our team is made of this season for the fans at home, and playing in arenas filled with excitement each time we go out.”

The schedule format is round robin, with each opponent in the 10-team league slated for a home-and-home series. The Mountaineers open the Big 12 schedule with a pair of road games, starting on Thursday, Jan. 2 at Kansas and at Oklahoma State on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Baylor, defending Big 12 Champions, will be WVU’s first league opponent to come to the Coliseum, on Wednesday, Jan. 8, followed by Texas on Sunday, Jan. 12. The Mountaineers will then travel to Iowa State on Jan. 15, prior to returning home to face Oklahoma on Jan. 18.

The Mountaineers will have back-to-back road trips to Texas Tech on Jan. 22 and at Texas on Jan. 25, before coming home to close out the month against Iowa State on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

WVU opens the month of February at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, as it takes on TCU on Saturday, Feb. 1. One week later, on Feb. 8, WVU will play host to Kansas State, before traveling to Oklahoma on Thursday, Feb. 13.

The Mountaineers will play in a pair of home games against TCU and Oklahoma State on Feb. 16 and 19, respectively, before traveling to Kansas State on Saturday, Feb. 22. The Red Raiders of Texas Tech will come to the Coliseum on Wednesday, Feb. 26, and WVU will play Baylor at the Ferrell Center on Sunday, March 2. WVU’s regular-season schedule will come to a close at home on Tuesday, March 4 against Kansas.

The women’s basketball Big 12 Championship is set for March 7-10 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla. Times and the non-conference portion of the schedule will be released at a later date.
