Affiliate Added to Radio Network
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The West Virginia Mountaineers and IMG College have announced today that Fantasia Broadcasting’s WZST-FM in Morgantown, WV, has signed as the new radio network’s primary-market affiliate station, joining 20 other outlets that will carry live WVU sports.
The agreement with Fantasia includes coverage on WMMN-AM as well as on previously announced Fantasia Broadcasting-owned Fairmont affiliates WRLF-FM and WTCS-AM. This will provide fans multiple signals for complete coverage of Mountaineer Athletics across Morgantown and Monongalia County.
WZST-FM, a Hot Adult Contemporary formatted station, will air football and men’s basketball, along with the football and basketball coaches’ shows and a daily “Mountaineer Minute” report. Conference baseball will be carried on Fantasia’s WMMN-AM (920) or WRLF-FM (94.3), and women’s basketball will be carried by WZST-FM (100.9) or WRLF-FM (94.3).
"We look forward to the season ahead and appreciate the opportunity that the University and IMG have offered us,” said Nick Fantasia, President, Fantasia Broadcasting. “Our company has had a long history broadcasting WVU Sports, and having WZST chosen as the Morgantown Flagship affiliate is an unexpected thrill for us."
"I want to welcome WZST-FM to the new Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG, which is the only place for fans to hear live WVU sporting events,” said Joe Potter, SVP of Broadcasting for IMG College. “Fantasia Broadcasting has been a part of Mountaineer broadcasts since the early 1950s, and we look forward to their continued loyal support as our Flagship station in Morgantown. With the addition of WZST-FM, the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG now has added affiliates in Monongalia, Marion and Preston Counties, and our North-Central West Virginia station lineup is strong. We will continue to add affiliates over the next couple of weeks as we plan for additional coverage on game day. WZST-FM will be a great teammate as our primary-market radio affiliate."
West Virginia University and IMG College, which operates the nation’s largest independent sports radio network, recently formed a broad 12-year multimedia rights and sponsorship partnership including exclusive representation and management of game broadcasts and coaches’ shows on the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG beginning in the 2013-14 season.
Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG plans to add four hours of pre- and post-game coverage for WVU football. Pregame shows will expand from one hour to 3.5 hours and postgame shows to two hours from 30 minutes. The Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG will also be available to fans on WVUSports.com, the official athletic website of West Virginia Athletics.
