MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 29 West Virginia University cross country team was ranked No. 5 in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the USTFCCA NCAA Division I Regional Cross Country Rankings.
The Mountaineers remained at No. 5 in the region, after being chosen fifth in the preseason poll.
“Fifth is reflective of where we should be ranked at this point,” says coach Sean Cleary. “The region is, again, very strong this year, our hope is to take this ranking and surpass it by season’s end.”
West Virginia posted a fourth-place finish at the Lehigh Invitational to open the season, and followed that up with an eighth-place finish at the PSU Spiked Shoe Invitational this past weekend.
All Mountaineer runners posted a season-best time at the PSU Spiked Shoe, and sophomore Paige Szabat
crossed the finish line first for WVU in each of the first two meets.
The updated USTFCCA National Poll will be released tomorrow.
