MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team moved up to No. 28 in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Coaches’ Poll released today.

The Mountaineers were ranked No. 29 in the preseason poll.

“Very soon, we will all have a much clearer picture of the national scene,” says coach Sean Cleary. “The window for qualifying for the National Championships opens in two weeks, at which point results become more meaningful.”

West Virginia posted a fourth-place finish in its first meet of the season at the Lehigh Invitational, and followed that up with an eighth-place finish at the PSU Spiked Shoe Invitational last weekend.

“We have three weeks to put our group into a better position than we currently sit today,” Cleary says.

The Mountaineers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa., on the Goodman Cross Country Course at Lehigh University. The course will also serve as the site for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in November.
