Women's Soccer Drops to No. 21

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team ranks No. 21 in today’s Soccer America Top 25 Poll.

The Mountaineers (4-2-2) dropped 11 spots after splitting its matches at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium last weekend. WVU trumped Eastern Kentucky, 4-0, on Sept. 13, and fell 4-2 to unranked Kentucky on Sept. 15. The Wildcats are ranked No. 19 in today’s poll.

Virginia (7-0) moved into the No. 1 spot today, while Stanford (5-01) ranks No. 2 and Wake Forest (6-0-1) is No. 3. Notre Dame (6-1) is No. 4, and North Carolina (7-1) ranks No. 5. Baylor (6-0-2), the highest-ranked team from the Big 12 Conference, is No. 18, and Texas Tech (7-1) jumps into the poll at No. 20.

After two weeks at No. 19, the Mountaineers dropped to No. 25 in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire Poll. UVA and Stanford rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the poll, while Florida State (6-0-2) is No. 3, UCLA (6-1) is No. 4 and UNC is No. 5. BU ranks No. 13, and TTU ranks No. 19.

WVU stays at home this weekend and concludes nonconference play against Richmond and Wright State. The Mountaineers welcome the Spiders on Friday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m., and the Raiders on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The first 50 fans on Friday night receive a mini soccer ball, and the next 100 fans will receive a team-signed poster.

On Sunday, fans can take a picture with the Big 12 Regular-Season Championship trophy in the stadium concourse. Additionally, weather permitting, the Mountaineers will host a free soccer clinic for kids 13 and under at Dreamswork Field following the game. The clinic will be 45 minutes long and will feature instruction from the WVU coaches and players. Participants must sign up before halftime, and players should bring a ball, cleats and shin guards. Free giveaways and pizza, courtesy of Papa John’s, will be provided.
