MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team begins the Gold & Blue Players Challenge Friday, Sept. 20, at the WVU Coliseum.

The Mountaineers (10-1) face Liberty (1-9) on Friday at 1 p.m., and Georgetown (6-5) at 6:30 p.m., then battle with UMBC (7-4) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

“We are excited to be back in the Coliseum this weekend,” says coach Jill Kramer. “This is basically the last weekend most teams play nonconference tournaments before conference play gets started.”

West Virginia looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season to Duquesne on Tuesday night.

Entering the weekend, the Mountaineers rank No. 9 nationally in blocks per set.

“I really liked the way our team approached practice yesterday after a tough loss at Duquesne. They came together as a team and competed hard,” Kramer says. “That’s what it takes to keep improving and I like the direction we are headed right now.”

Sophomore middle blocker Caleah Wells ranks No. 2 in the Big 12 in hitting percentage and freshman outside hitter Jordan Anderson is No. 3 in kills and points, while ranking first in both categories among all freshmen.

The Mountaineers’ 10-0 start to the season was the best start in school history, and the 10-game winning streak was the program’s second-best streak.

Friday evening’s match against Georgetown has been deemed a Dollar Day, with tickets and select concessions available for just one dollar.
