When you walk into Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday for the Mountaineer football game, you may notice an improvement in the overall mobile phone service reception in and around the stadium.

The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics recently implemented the installation of a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at Milan Puskar Stadium for the 2013 season, provided by Crown Castle.

“This season is the first season the DAS system is up and operational, and so far we have gotten a lot of positive feedback on it,” says Michael Szul, Associate Athletic Director for Business and Operations at WVU. “Crown Castle continues to fine-tune the system and we will keep seeing improvements throughout the year.”

The system was put into place to provide reliable wireless coverage for emergency communication and public safety. One fan wrote into the department showing thanks for the improvement made this season.

“The cell phone service (for the Georgia State game) worked fine. You could text, phone and use all of your phone features,” Tom Dodd wrote. “I had fans around me comment as to how much better it was too. Thanks for the upgrade in this area.”

Other fans like Dodd may notice a difference in the mobile reception as they arrive for Saturday's noon game against 11th-ranked Oklahoma State.
