MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a 2-0 showing in its last nonconference weekend of the season, the West Virginia University women’s soccer team moved up in two national polls.
The Mountaineers (6-2-2) climbed three spots to No. 18 in this week’s Soccer America Top 25 Poll and two spots to No. 23 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire Poll.
Virginia (9-0) ranks No. 1 and Stanford (7-0-1) ranks No. 2 in both polls. Notre Dame (7-1), UCLA (8-1) and Florida State (8-0-2) round out the top five in the Soccer America Poll. FSU is No. 3 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll, followed by UCLA and Notre Dame.
Baylor, WVU’s opponent on Sept. 29, is the top-ranked squad from the Big 12 Conference and checks in at No. 12 in both polls. The Bears also rank No. 11 in this week’s TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25 Poll and No. 13 in the SoccerTimes.com Top 25 Poll.
WVU’s ascension up the polls follows its 2-0 win over Richmond on Sept. 20 and 4-1 victory over Wright State on Sept. 22.
