MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a three-week span that saw the Mountaineers sit just outside the rankings, the West Virginia University women’s soccer team broke into the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Top 25 Poll today, coming in at No. 22.

The Mountaineers (8-2-2, 2-0 Big 12) move into the poll following their 2-0 showing on the road in their opening weekend of Big 12 play. WVU opened the trip with a 2-1 victory at Oklahoma State on Friday, Sept. 27, before upsetting No. 9 Baylor, 4-3, yesterday.

Virginia (11-0, 5-0 ACC) is ranked No. 1, and Stanford (8-0-1, 1-0 Pac 12) follows at No. 2. UCLA (9-1, 1-0 Pac 12), Florida State (9-0-3, 4-0-2 ACC) and Notre Dame (9-1, 5-0 ACC) round out the top five.

Texas Tech (10-1-1, 1-0-1 Big 12) is the highest-ranked conference team and checks in at No. 12. Baylor (8-1-2, 1-1 Big 12) fell five spots to No. 16 after yesterday’s loss.

The Mountaineers enter a four-match home stand on a four-match winning streak. WVU will open its home stand against Texas this Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

Friday is a “Dollar Night,” and all tickets and select concessions will be available for $1 each. The game also will be a Gold Rush, and all fans are encouraged to wear gold. Additionally, children are encouraged to complete the coloring sheet found at WVUsports.com and bring with them to the stadium gate Friday night for one free youth admission to the match. Participants also will be entered into a drawing to receive a plush Musket toy.
