MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team faces Baylor in a Big 12 Conference match at the WVU Coliseum on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday has been deemed Dig Pink Night, with all fans encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness.
The Mountaineers (15-2, 2-1) have matched their highest win total in a single season since 2010, following a 1-1 road trip this past week.
“After spending last week on the road, we are really excited to be back in Morgantown and in the Coliseum,” says coach Jill Kramer. “I was really impressed with how well our team traveled last week. Their hard work throughout the spring and summer is really paying off. They are in great shape which really becomes evident in how well they recover from match to match and bounce back after roadtrips.”
Sophomore setter Brittany Sample
, sophomore outside hitter Nikki Attea
and freshman outside hitter Jordan Anderson
all recorded double-doubles in a win over Texas Tech Saturday.
Anderson leads the Big 12 Conference in kills per set, while junior middle blocker Evyn McCoy
ranks No. 48 nationally in blocks.
“We are continuing to fine-tune some things, both offensively and defensively this week, while staying very disciplined in practice,” Kramer says. “The effort is there, the practice intensity is there. We need to play point for point when match time comes.”
Baylor (8-11, 0-3) leads the all-time series between the two schools 5-0, while winning both matchups last season in straight sets
The Bears’ senior outside hitter Zoe Adom, who leads her team in kills in 2013, had 29 kills in the two meetings between the schools last season, averaging 4.83 kills per set.
The Mountaineers are 8-0 inside the WVU Coliseum this season.
