MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Several West Virginia collegiate swimming programs will be competing in Morgantown Oct. 11-12, at the third annual West Virginia State Games at the WVU Natatorium.
Friday’s action will begin at 4 p.m., while Saturday’s begins at 9 a.m.
“Having the third annual West Virginia State Games this weekend is a great meet for all the programs from West Virginia to come together and express their school and state pride,” says coach Vic Riggs. “We all share a common bond of being West Virginians and I’m excited to be hosting the meet this year.”
This will be the second time that WVU has hosted the meet, as the inaugural State Games were held at the Natatorium in 2011. Last year’s meet took place at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va.
This year’s field features eight schools, including the Mountaineers. Other schools competing are Alderson Broaddus, Davis & Elkins, Fairmont State, Marshall, West Virginia Tech, West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling Jesuit.
This meet marks the first of three consecutive weekends of competition for the Mountaineers, as well as the first chance at competition against other schools. WVU held its Gold-Blue meet last weekend.
“This is the first meet of three weeks of racing for the teams, so I’m looking to see where we are at as a team and where our focus needs to improve as we head into the heart of our dual-meet season,” says Riggs.
