Women's Soccer Up to 18 in TDS Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Riding a seven-game win streak, the West Virginia University women’s soccer team is up four spots to No. 18 in this week’s TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Top 25 Poll.

The Mountaineers (11-2-2, 5-0 Big 12) earned two key Big 12 Conference wins at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium over the weekend, defeating Iowa State, 2-0, on Oct. 11, and TCU, 3-2, in overtime on Oct. 13. WVU owns a three-point lead over Texas, the conference’s second-place team, and pushed its all-time conference regular-season record to 12-0-1.

The poll’s top four remain unchanged, as Virginia (14-0, 8-0 ACC) is No. 1, UCLA (12-1-1, 4-0-1 Pac 12) is No. 2, Florida State (12-0-3, 7-0-2 ACC) is No. 3 and North Carolina (12-2, 6-2 ACC) is No. 4. Portland (11-1-1, 3-0 WCC) moves up to No. 5 today.

Texas Tech (13-1-2, 3-0-2 Big 12) is the highest-ranked Big 12 team and moved up four spots to No. 7. Baylor fell out of the rankings this week.

The Mountaineers close out their regular-season home schedule this Friday, Oct. 18, against Kansas, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Stadium.

Friday night is “Dollar Night,” with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas available for $1 each. Additionally, glowsticks will be handed out to the first 500 fans inside the gate.

Friday also is Senior Night, and seniors Kara Blosser, Sara Keane, Frances Silva and Caroline Szwed will be recognized prior to kickoff. It’s also Alumni Weekend, and former Mountaineers will be in attendance and recognized at halftime.
