MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team ranks No. 6 in this week’s Soccer America Top 25 Poll.

The ranking is the Mountaineers’ (11-2-2, 5-0 Big 12) highest of the 2013 season. The squad has earned a top-10 ranking six times this year. With only three regular-season matches remaining, the Mountaineers rank No. 1 in the Big 12 Conference and own a three-point lead over second-place Texas.

WVU is the highest-ranked conference squad in this week’s poll. Texas Tech (13-1-2, 3-0-2 Big 12) ranks No. 16, and the Longhorns rank No. 25 (10-4-1, 4-1 Big 12).

Undefeated Virginia (14-0) remains No. 1, while UCLA (12-1-1) ranks No. 2 and Florida State (12-0-3) is No. 3. North Carolina (12-2) and Portland (11-1-1) move up two spots to No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

The Mountaineers also are on the move in this week’s NSCAA/Continental Tire National College Rankings, as they jumped five spots to No. 11. TTU is the only other Big 12 team ranked in the poll and checks in at No. 18.

The NSCAA Poll’s top five mirror the top five in the Soccer America Poll.

WVU pushed its win streak to seven matches with two Big 12 victories last weekend at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, defeating Iowa State, 2-0, on Oct. 11, and TCU, 3-2 in overtime, on Oct. 13. The Mountaineers have yet to drop a regular-season Big 12 match and own an all-time record of 12-0-1.

The Mountaineers close out their regular-season home schedule this Friday, Oct. 18, against Kansas, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Stadium. Friday night is “Dollar Night,” with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas available for $1 each. Additionally, glowsticks will be handed out to the first 500 fans inside the gate.

Friday also is Senior Night, and seniors Kara Blosser, Sara Keane, Frances Silva and Caroline Szwed will be recognized prior to kickoff. It’s also Alumni Weekend, and former Mountaineers will be in attendance and recognized at halftime.
