MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams travel to Penn State on Friday, Oct. 18, for a dual meet with the Nittany Lions. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., at the McCoy Natatorium in University Park, Pa.
Last season, the divers swept their competition, but both teams ultimately fell. The women lost 146-97, while the men fell 174-69.
“The Penn State dual meet is always a good meet and they'll be ready to race with it being their first dual meet of their season,” swimming coach Vic Riggs says. “We'll need to be focused on what we are capable of doing and not let the outside distractions such as travel, a different pool and their crowd effect our performances.”
The teams face Penn State after hosting the third annual West Virginia State Games last weekend, both squads finished first overall in the three-day championship style meet compressed into 25 hours.
“If we remember we are Mountaineers and prepare and compete like Mountaineers, I believe we can have a great meet,” says Riggs. “This is the first of several meets this season against top 25 programs and the challenges these types of meets and competition will only prepare us better for our Big 12 and NCAA meet goals.”
