MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Days before the West Virginia University women’s soccer team plays for its second straight Big 12 Conference regular-season championship, the Mountaineers are ranked within the top 10 in two national polls.

WVU (12-2-2, 6-0 Big 12) retains its No. 6 ranking in this week’s Soccer America Women’s Top 25 Poll and moves up three spots to No. 9 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire National College Rankings.

The Mountaineers’ Soccer America ranking is its seventh Top-10 showing in the poll this season, while this week’s slot in the coaches’ poll is WVU’s first Top-10 appearance since earning the No. 7 ranking in the Sept. 1, 2009 poll.

The top five in this week’s Soccer America Poll mirrors last week’s showing, with Virginia (16-0) owning the top spot. UCLA (13-1-1) follows at No. 2, while Florida State (12-0-3) is No. 3, North Carolina (13-3) is No. 4 and Portland (12-1-1) is No. 5.

Texas Tech (13-1-2, 3-0-2 Big 12), WVU’s final regular-season opponent, ranks No. 16, and Texas (11-4-1, 5-1-1 Big 12) ranks No. 25.

The Cavaliers, Bruins and Seminoles own the top-three spots in the coaches’ poll. Virginia Tech (13-1-2) checks in at No. 4, and the Tar Heels rank No. 5.

The Red Raiders are the only additional conference team ranked in the poll and are slotted at No. 18.

The Mountaineers also rank a Big 12-best No. 17 in this week’s NCAA RPI showing. Additionally, WVU was ranked No. 14 in yesterday’s TopDrawerSoccer.com Poll. TTU is ranked No. 46 in the RPI and No. 7 in the TDS Poll.

Riding an eight-match win streak, WVU looks to clinch its second consecutive Big 12 Conference regular-season title, and fourth straight conference championship, this weekend on the road. The Mountaineers face Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., on Friday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m. ET, and the Red Raiders in Lubbock, Texas, on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. ET. Friday’s match will be carried by FCS Atlantic.
