MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – With a 5-4 victory on Tuesday evening, the Blue team took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series of the Gold-Blue World Series at Hawley Field.

The Blue team was once again led by senior first baseman Ryan McBroom who continued his torrid hitting pace this fall. McBroom had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs. Junior center fielder Bobby Boyd and junior catcher Max Nogay had two hits apiece as well.

Despite scoring a run in each of the final three innings, the Gold team was unable to fully overcome the deficit. Senior left fielder Jacob Rice had three hits, including an RBI double.

Sophomore left-hander Ross Vance picked up his first win of the series, allowing one run on four hits in 4.0 innings. Vance struck out three in the start. Senior right-hander Corey Walter let in one run on one hit with two strikeouts in the ninth inning to earn his second save of the series.

The loss was assessed to senior left-hander Zach Bargeron. Bargeron allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits with one strikeout in 4.0 innings.

The teams return to action for game four on Thursday at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
