MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University’s combined varsity athletic teams have a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) score of 84 percent, according to data released today by the NCAA.
WVU’s average GSR score of 84 percent is its highest since the NCAA began collecting GSR data with the entering freshmen class of 1995. WVU’s score is up two points from last year’s average and 14 points from four years ago. WVU’s score of 84 is higher than the NCAA’s overall four-year GSR average score of 82. The most recent Graduation Success Rates are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I from 2003 through 2006.
The Graduation Success Rate was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiative to more accurately measure the academic success of Division I student-athletes.
 The four-year GSR scores (percentage) for WVU’s varsity sports teams (2003-04 to 2006-07): baseball 73; men’s basketball 100; football 80; men’s soccer 88; men’s swimming 75; wrestling 85; women’s basketball 82; women’s cross country/track 100; rowing 60; gymnastics 92; women’s soccer 88; women’s swimming 90; women’s tennis 100; volleyball 100; and rifle 100.
