Nogay’s Walk-Off Hit Clinches Series

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior catcher Max Nogay had a walk-off  RBI single to cap off a three-run ninth inning as the Blue team won 6-5 and clinched the Gold-Blue World Series.
 
The best-of-five series concluded with the Blue team winning 3-2.
 
Trailing 5-3 entering the final half-inning, the Blue team scored three runs on four hits without getting an out to win the series. Freshman right fielder Shaun Wood tied the game with a double to left center field, driving in junior center fielder Bobby Boyd and senior shortstop Michael Constantini. Senior first baseman Ryan McBroom scored the game-winning run scoring from third base on a single up the middle by Nogay.
 
Boyd finished the game with three hits, two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI. Constantini recorded two hits and McBroom scored two runs.
 
The Gold team was led at the plate by junior second baseman Billy Fleming, who had a 3-for-5 performance with one double, one run and one RBI. Freshman center fielder Tony Strasiser added two hits, one run and one RBI.
 
Senior left-hander Joby Lapkowicz earned a no-decision in his 3.0 inning start for the Blue team. Lapkowicz allowed two hits and struck out three. The win was awarded to freshman right-hander Dakota Mills, pitching a no-hit ninth inning.
 
The Gold team was led by a combined 4.0 innings of no-run, no-hit relief by senior left-hander Zach Bargeron and sophomore right-hander Ryan Hostrander.
