MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team is ranked No. 15 in this week’s Women’s Top 25 Poll.
The Mountaineers (13-3-2, 7-1 Big 12) were ranked No. 14 in last week’s poll.
WVU claimed its second straight Big 12 Conference regular-season championship and fourth consecutive conference championship with a 2-1 double-overtime win at Oklahoma on Oct. 25. The victory was the team’s ninth straight. Junior forward Kate Schwindel netted the golden goal in the 101st minute, her second golden goal in as many weeks. Senior forward Frances Silva assisted on the game-winner and tallied the game-tying goal in the 79th minute.
The Mountaineers closed out their regular-season slate with a 2-0 loss at Texas Tech on Oct. 27. The Red Raiders are ranked No. 7 in this week’s poll.
Virginia (18-0) again ranks No. 1, while UCLA (14-1-2) is No. 2 and North Carolina (15-3) is No. 3. Florida State (14-1-3) and Virginia Tech (14-2-2) check in at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
The Big 12 Conference’s regular-season schedule concludes next Friday, Nov. 1, with four conference matches. The Big 12 Soccer Championship bracket will be released late that night. The Mountaineers have clinched the No. 1 seed and will play the No. 8-seeded team on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m. ET, at Swope Soccer Village, in Kansas City.
