MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  –  The West Virginia University volleyball team travels to Lawrence, Kan., to face No. 24 Kansas on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center.

The Mountaineers (17-8, 3-6 Big 12), who are just one win shy of tying their most wins in a single season since 2004, dropped the first matchup of the year against the Jayhawks (18-5, 8-2 Big 12), 3-1, after winning the first set and holding a 23-16 advantage late in the second set.

“We’ve kept that one in the back of our mind,” says coach Jill Kramer. “Kansas is right now the best blocking team in the league. Their middles are great. I think their setter has been distributing the ball well. They’re just a great team.”

West Virginia defeated Texas Tech in its most-recent outing on Saturday afternoon in a thrilling five-set match. Kansas defeated TCU, 3-1, in Fort Worth, Texas, and is 4-0 at home this season in Big 12 Conference play.

“It should be a good match. We’ve got to be firing on all cylinders,” Kramer says. “They’re a great team and we need to be playing great volleyball the entire time.”

The Jayhawks lead the Big 12 in opponent hitting percentage, kills and assists. Freshman middle blocker Tayler Soucie was named the Big 12’s Rookie of the Week.

WVU freshman outside hitter Jordan Anderson leads the conference in kills per set (4.03) for the fifth-consecutive week. Sophomore setter Brittany Sample has recorded a season-high for assists in each of her last two outings, and currently sits at 1,900 career assists and 499 career digs through her first 55 matches as a Mountaineer.

Kansas leads the all-time series between the two schools 5-0, and West Virginia is looking for its first win over a ranked opponent in program history.

The Mountaineers will stay in the state of Kansas and continue their two-match road trip with a match against Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 8 p.m.
