MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After one week in the top spot, the West Virginia University rifle team dropped two positions to No. 3 in this week’s College Rifle Coaches Association Poll.
This week’s rankings are based on a team’s last score shot. The Mountaineers’ (5-0, 3-0 GARC) shot 4690 in their victory over Akron (4605) on Nov. 3, at the WVU Rifle Range.
Alaska-Fairbanks and Kentucky are tied at No. 1, as both teams shot 4694 in their last competition. The Nanooks ranked No. 2 last week, while the Wildcats were No. 3. Murray State and Nebraska round out the top five.
Army checks in at No. 6, and Jacksonville State follows at No. 7. Air Force, Memphis and TCU occupy the No. 8-10 spots.
The Mountaineers close out their fall semester at new Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) foe Navy on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range, in Annapolis, Md.
