MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia Swimming and Diving teams completed the first day of competition at the Big 12/ACC Challenge quad meet at the Virginia Aquatic and Fitness Center in Charlottesville, Va.
“It was a strong night for us. All of our men’s relay teams swam in-season best times,” said coach Vic Riggs. “Overall we had 80.5 percent in-season best times swimming against some very talented programs.”
The action started on the boards with both events for the men and women.
On the women’s 3-meter, Rey placed sixth (269.25) while VandePoel placed seventh (259.35), Schmidt placed 11th (228.45), Taffner placed 14th (211.05) and Stone placed 16th (190.73).
On the men’s 3-meter, McLaughlin placed 10th with a score of 263.85, while Carmichael placed 12th with a score of 254.85.
In the women’s 100 breast, junior Jenelle Zee
with a time of 1:05.31.
In the men’s 100 breast, Brill placed ninth (57.75), while sophomore Jake Iotte
(58.77), sophomore Aidan Fumagalli
(59.44) and Green placed 16th
In the men’s 200 back, Bohman took fifth with a time of 1:47.87. Hickey placed 12th (1:51.15), while Querciagrossa placed 14th (1:53.54).
In the 100 free, Squires placed fifth with a time of 45.70 and Glegg placed sixth with a time of 45.81.
In the women’s 200 fly, Ogden placed eighth with a time of 2:03.07, while freshman Natalie Johnson placed 12th with a time of 2:04.75.
In the men’s 200 fly, Williams placed ninth with a time of 1:54.71, while Howells placed 11th (1:56.23) and Green placed 13th (1:58.79).
Friday’s action concluded with the 400 Medley Relay, the women’s “A” team of Gillmore, Zee, Ogden and Parenti placed 11th (4:00.85)
The men’s “A” team of Bohman, Brill, Marsh and Squires placed seventh (3:22.22), while the “B” team of Querciagrossa, Iotte, Williams and Glegg placed ninth with a time of 3:28.08.
“I’m very proud of how the teams have responded to this meet,” said Riggs. “We’ve set the bar high for tomorrow and I’m excited for us to race again.”
