MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Following a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championships, the No. 24 West Virginia University cross country team travels to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Mid-Atlantic Regional meet on Friday, Nov. 15, at the Goodman Course at Lehigh University.

The Mountaineers, who rank third in the Mid-Atlantic Region entering the weekend, have already participated at the Goodman Course twice this season, with the Lehigh Invitational and the Paul Short Run earlier in the season.

“The team has recovered very well since the Big 12 Championships,” says coach Sean Cleary. “Training has gone as well as we could have hoped and they appear to be very confident of a good race. Time will tell if our best is good enough.”

Senior runner Sarah Martinelli led the Mountaineers to the second-place finish at the conference meet. Martinelli, a native of Morgantown, was the first WVU runner to cross the line, posting a personal-best time of 20:44 to earn All-Big 12 honors.

“I have no doubt that we have put ourselves into the position to run the best team race of the year on Friday,” Cleary says. “At this point we simply go out and execute a race plan that will allow for our best result. The temperatures look good, and the ground will be conducive to fast running. It's time to find out how good we actually are.”

West Virginia registered a fifth-place finish at the event a year ago with a team score of 111. Then-freshman Kelly Williams finished 22nd overall (21:20), while Martinelli finished in 31st (21:38).

No. 4 Georgetown holds the top spot in the Mid-Atlantic. No. 30 Penn State, who is the defending Mid-Atlantic Regional champions, is ranked fourth in the region behind the Mountaineers.

The women’s 6k gets underway at 1:15 p.m., on Friday. Results and other information will be provided at WVUsports.com shortly after the conclusion of the event.
