MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University Director of Athletics Oliver Luck announced the 52-game 2014 Mountaineer baseball schedule today.
“Randy Mazey has put together a challenging schedule against top-caliber programs,” says Luck. “I am looking forward to Coach Mazey’s second year as the program continues to grow under his leadership.”
The Mountaineers will square off against eight opponents who reached the NCAA Tournament last season, as well as 18 opponents who finished in the Top 100 of the final RPI. The slate also features three Big 12 series and a total of 13 games at Hawley Field in Morgantown.
“I am excited that we get to bring Big 12 baseball to Morgantown,” says Luck. “After last season’s success that saw our program soar to new heights, we really caught the attention of Mountaineer fans throughout the state.”
“We are really excited about the schedule, but it is going to be challenging,” says Mazey. “We get to go to some really neat places and face some very good competition. As far as getting out and seeing new places, the kids are going to be very excited. The Big 12 is always challenging and it's going to be as good as its ever been this season.”
WVU will spend the first six weeks of the season on the road, beginning with games against Louisville (Feb. 14), Delaware (Feb. 15) and The Citadel (Feb. 16) in Charleston, S.C.
The following weekend the Mountaineers will travel for a three-game series at San Diego State (Feb. 21-23).
A trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., begins the second month of the season with games against Duke (Feb. 28), Coastal Carolina (March 1) and James Madison (March 2).

The first game of a home-and-home series with Marshall (March 18) will be played at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston. The Mountaineers will then once again hit the road for a trip to UNC Wilmington (March 21-23).
The Mountaineers’ home slate opens March 25 with a game against Pitt in Morgantown, while WVU will make a return trip to Pitt on April 1.
The Big 12 season begins at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston against Baylor (March 28-30), followed by a trip to TCU (April 4-6) and a mid-week game at Penn State (April 8).
Twelve of the next 15 games will be played at Hawley Field, which features Big 12 games against Oklahoma State (April 11-13), Kansas State (April 25-27) and Texas (May 2-4). Home midweek games during that span include Ohio State (April 15), Maryland (April 22) and Marshall (April 23).
WVU will make its first trip to Oklahoma from April 17-19.
On May 6 in Princeton, W.Va., the Mountaineers will take on Virginia Tech at Hunnicutt Field, marking the end of the home campaign.
The final two Big 12 series will be at Kansas (May 9-11) and Texas Tech (May 15-17), with a return trip to Maryland on May 13.
