MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 7-ranked West Virginia University women’s soccer team earned its 12th straight NSCAA Team Academic Award, announced today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
WVU was recognized for its team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for the 2012-13 academic year. The Mountaineers posted a team GPA of 3.40 last year, the second highest of the seven Big 12 Conference soccer team s honored with the award.
“Twelve straight awards is such an honor for this program and a direct reflection of the hard work our ladies put in every day on the field and in the classroom,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “Our academic staff, led by our team counselor Stephanie White and assistant coach Marisa Kanela, and our team should be proud of this award.”
The Mountaineers (16-3-3, 7-1) continue their quest for a bid to the 2013 College Cup tomorrow night, as they meet No. 4-ranked and top-seeded Virginia Tech, at 6 p.m., at Thompson Field, in Blacksburg, Va. The match will be streamed live on ESPN3.
