MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women’s basketball senior center Asya Bussie
has been named to the Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List.
A total of 50 student-athletes were named to the list.
Bussie, who sat out last season due to an ACL injury, has helped lead the Mountaineers to a 4-1 start to the season, while averaging 16.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. The Randallstown, Md., native had her first double-double of the season in a win over Virginia on Sunday, recording 14 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes.
Bussie is one of six players from the Big 12 named to the Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List, along with Tiffany Bias of Oklahoma State, Hallie Christofferson of Iowa State, Chassidy Fussell from Texas, Odyssey Sims of Baylor and Oklahoma’s Aaryn Ellenberg.
The list of 50 players will be cut down to the Mid-Season 30 on Feb. 25, before four finalists are chosen on Mar. 23. The winner will be selected April 6.
Former Baylor standout Brittney Griner captured the Naismith Trophy each of the past two seasons.
