Sample Named Athlete of the Week
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University volleyball sophomore Brittany Sample has been named the Varsity Sports Report Athlete of the Week.
Sample totaled 80 assists in seven sets this week for an 11.43 assists per set average. Sample had 40 assists, nine digs and two blocks against Oklahoma on Wednesday night. The Lewisville, Texas, native followed that performance up with 40 assists and eight digs in a three-set sweep of Buffalo in the season finale on Saturday.
Sample finished the season with 1,149 assists and played in every set of every match this season.

For the second consecutive week, three Mountaineers put up scoring numbers in double figures, taking an 85-58 victory over Youngstown State, Saturday, in Youngstown, Ohio ... sophomore guard Bria Holmes recorded a 19-point performance for the second-consecutive game to lead the Mountaineers.

West Virginia had a 1-1 week, as it fell to Oklahoma, 3-1, at home on Wednesday night, but then defeated Buffalo, 3-0, in the season finale on Saturday afternoon ... sophomore setter Brittany Sample had 80 assists in the two matches, totaling 1,149 assists this season ... freshman outside hitter Jordan Anderson led all players with 17 kills and just two hitting errors in the win over the Bulls ... Anderson had 396 kills in 100 sets this season for a 3.96 kills per set average.
