MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s basketball coach Mike Carey is this season’s honorary chairperson for The Morgantown Salvation Army Red Kettle Christmas Campaign for the second consecutive season.
Carey has teamed up with the Salvation Army’s “Forgotten Angels”, which allows those names on the angel tree that go unadopted still receive a present at the holiday season. As a part of the Campaign, the WVU women’s basketball game at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the WVU Coliseum will be dedicated to the area’s forgotten angels. Fans who bring an unwrapped toy for the Angel Tree Program will receive a voucher good for admittance to a future WVU women’s basketball home game.
Based on the premise of neighbors helping neighbors, the Angel Tree Program provides new clothing and/or toys for children of needy families. Last year The Salvation Army distributed 3,816 toys to more than 1,270 children from Monongalia, Marion, and Preston Counties.
This campaign enables The Salvation Army to provide food, toys and clothing to over 740 households during the Christmas season and helps more than over 3,600 households in Monongalia, Marion, and Preston Counties recovering from all kinds of personal disasters throughout the year.
