Caldwell Named Athlete of the Week
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women’s basketball senior guard Christal Caldwell has been named the Varsity Sports Report Athlete of the Week.
Caldwell used a game-leading 22-point effort on Tuesday, followed by a 19-point outing on Saturday, guiding WVU to a pair of wins last week. Tuesday’s point total was Caldwell’s 10th career 20-point game, falling one point shy of back-to-back 20 point outings. The Charlotte, N.C. native, has now led WVU in scoring twice this season and stands as the season scoring leader with 15.5 points per game. In addition to per point total, Caldwell also averaged an impressive 3.5 steals per game this week and 3.0 assists. She collected seven threes on 50 percent (7-14) shooting and was 42.4 percent successful from the field. Caldwell was also flawless from the free throw line, making all six attempts.
