The Extra Tenth: Alexa Goldberg
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Extra Tenth is back in 2014! A blog dedicated to the West Virginia University gymnastics team, a different Mountaineer will be featured every week.
This season’s second edition features freshman Alexa Goldberg. The Ivyland, Pa., native opened her Mountaineer career with a bang, scoring a winning 9.925 on bars in the team’s third-place finish at then-No. 21 Kentucky on Jan. 10. Goldberg’s mark was the ninth-highest bars score in Mountaineer history and the team’s highest on the event since 2009. She currently ranks No. 3 nationally on the event.
A level 10 gymnast out of Central Bucks Gym, she was a five-time Junior Olympics National Team qualifier and finished fourth on bars at the 2013 Junior Olympics National Championships. Additionally, she won bars and finished second in the all-around and on floor at the 2012 PA State Championships and finished fifth on vault and beam at the 2013 Region 7 Championships.
Goldberg also competed on floor at UK. She could also see time on vault and beam this season.
The Mountaineers (1-2) continue their season-opening road trip at Maryland (0-1) on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m., at the Comcast Center, in College Park, Md.
