MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – As the gymnastics team prepares to open its 2014 home season at the WVU Coliseum on Jan. 26, West Virginia University officials are planning several exciting promotions for the Mountaineers’ four regular-season meets.

“After competing on the road for the last two weeks, I’m excited to finally open our home season this Sunday,” says Mountaineer coach Jason Butts. “We have a very fun season planned with a lot of great competition coming into the Coliseum. We’ve been looking forward to getting back in front of Mountaineer Nation, and we hope these promotions entice the fans to come cheer for us. We maintain that we have one of the best fan bases in the nation, and we’re excited to share our gymnastics with everyone this year.”

The Mountaineers (1-3) open their home season against NC State this Sunday, Jan. 26, at 3 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum. Sunday is the first of two designated “Dollar Days,” with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas available for $1 each. Additionally, the meet is a “Poster Day,” and the 2014 WVU gymnastics schedule poster will be available for all fans to pick up.

WVU’s regular-season home finale on Sunday, March 2, against Ohio State at 3 p.m., also is a “Dollar Day.” Additionally, it is a “Gold Rush,” and all fans are encouraged to wear gold that day. WVU will honor its four seniors – Amanda Carpenter, Hope Sloanhoffer, Erica Smith and Bethany Yurko – following the competition.

The Mountaineers will hold the second-annual “Wendy M. Roach Invitational” on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m., against George Washington and Towson. The invitational, named after former WVU gymnast and current graduate assistant Nicole Roach’s mother, is a “Pink Meet” to promote breast cancer awareness. All fans are encouraged to wear pink that day, and the team will accept sundry item donations, such as scarves, nail polish, books, lotion and socks, for donation to Morgantown’s Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.

The popular “Beauty and the Beast” promotion returns to the WVU Coliseum on Friday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. The Mountaineers will meet backyard rival Pitt, while the WVU wrestling team will simultaneously compete against Clarion. Tickets for the meet will be available at the door for $1 each, courtesy of United Bank.

Additionally, WVU will welcome the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, March 22, at 4 p.m. Ticket information will be announced at a later date.

The Mountaineer Ticket Office is now offering a Varsity Sports Flex Plan, a bargain for families who plan on attending a WVU varsity sporting event. Flex plan packages are available for just $20. A package provides 10 vouchers redeemable for single game tickets at any of these WVU sporting events: baseball, gymnastics and wrestling.

Flex plan packages can be purchased online at WVUGAME.com, by calling 1-800-WVU GAME or by stopping by the Mountaineer Ticket Office in the WVU Coliseum.
