MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Extra Tenth is back in 2014! A blog dedicated to the West Virginia University gymnastics team, a different Mountaineer will be featured every week.
This season’s third edition features freshman Emma Lasker. The Akron, N.Y., native made her Mountaineer debut at Maryland on Jan. 17, scoring 9.675 on vault.
A level 10 gymnast out of Rochester Gymnastics Academy, Lasker qualified for the 2013 Junior Olympics National Championships. She won vault at the 2013 Region 6 Championships and also finished third on floor and sixth in the all-around.
The Mountaineer coaches believe Lasker’s true Phelphs vault has potential to score high and expect her routine to turn heads in the future.
WVU (1-3) opens its 2014 home season this Sunday, Jan. 26, against NC State, at 3 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum. Sunday is a “Dollar Day,” and all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas are available for $1 each. WVU students get in for free with a valid WVU student I.D. Sunday also is a “Poster Day,” and fans may pick up a 2014 schedule poster featuring the Mountaineers.
