Women’s Swimming & Diving Drops Pair

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The women’s swimming and diving team closed out its regular season Saturday against Ohio and Iowa State at the Ohio University Aquatic Center in Athens, Ohio.
Junior Julie Ogden scored a win in the 200 fly against Ohio and Iowa State on Saturday.
 
 
The team lost to Ohio, 197.5-96.5, and Iowa State, 200-93.
 
“We had a solid effort today. Emma Skelley had some really nice swims and overall we did a good job preparing and racing,” says coach Vic Riggs. “We’ll be ready for the Big 12 Championships at full strength and see what we can do.”
 
The action started with the 400 medley relay, where the “A” team of sophomore Jaimee Gillmore and juniors Jenelle Zee, Julie Ogden and Courtney Parenti placed third with a time of 3:54.94.
 
In the 1650 free, freshman Emma Skelley placed second with a time of 17:17.24.
 
In the 200 free, sophomore Kelsey Frantz placed fifth with a time of 1:55.96 and Parenti placed sixth with a time of 1:56.05.
 
In the 100 breast, Zee finished second with a time of 1:05.44.
 
In the 200 fly, Ogden scored the win for the team with a time of 2:06.13, while sophomore Natalie Johnsen finished third with a time of 2:08.41.
 
In the 50 free, freshman Lindsay Morrow placed fourth with a time of 24.50 while Gillmore placed fifth with a time of 24.55.
 
For the divers, sophomore Lindsay Schmidt placed third on the 3-meter with a score of 297.20, while junior Haily VandePoel placed fourth (292.05) and sophomore Tori Taffner placed sixth (257.85).
 
On the 1-meter, VandePoel placed sixth (245.50) and Taffner placed seventh (239.15).
 
In the 100 free, Morrow placed fifth (53.71) and Gillmore placed seventh (54.36).
 
In the 200 breast, Zee placed fourth with a time of 2:26.00, while sophomore Morgan Emter placed fifth (2:29.29).
 
In the 500 free, Skelley placed third with a time of 5:01.53, while Frantz finished fourth (5:08.67).
 
In the 100 fly, Ogden finished second with a time of 57.27 and Johnsen placed seventh (58.77).
 
In the 200 IM, Emter placed seventh with a time of 2:16.55.
 
The meet closed with the 200 free relay, where the “A” team of Morrow, Ogden, Gillmore and Parenti placed third with a time of 1:38.76. The “B” team of senior Danya Contreras, freshman Mackenzie Braden, senior Hayley Kidd and sophomore Katie Murto placed sixth (1:43.65).
 
Both the men’s and women’s teams have finished their regular seasons. Their next competition is at the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas, from Feb. 26-Mar. 1.
