MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team owns the top spot in this week’s Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll for the third straight week.

Today’s ranking comes on the heels of the Mountaineers’ (10-0, 7-0 GARC) 4702-4688 victory over then-No. 2 Kentucky on Feb. 8. The win delivered WVU the 2013-14 regular-season Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) title, its seventh since 1998 and first since 2010; the Wildcats had won the last three straight conference regular-season titles.

Despite a 4709-4680 loss to the Mountaineers on Feb. 6, Alaska-Fairbanks is up one spot to No. 2 in this week’s poll. The Wildcats dropped back to No. 3, while Nebraska is No. 4 and Jacksonville State is No. 5. Memphis and Army rank No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. Air Force follows at No. 8, Ohio State is No. 9 and TCU ranks No. 10.

Today’s rankings are based on an average of the teams’ top three scores, and all three scores must derive from a different range. The Mountaineers shot a NCAA-best 4710 at the Withrow Invitational on Jan. 24. Additionally, the team shot a season-high home score of 4709 in its win over the Nanooks and 4690 at Memphis on Jan. 25.

The Mountaineers are off this week. The team next shoots an NCAA Qualifying match at Murray State on Feb. 22.
