MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The West Virginia University track and field team is set to travel to Geneva, Ohio, for the SPIRE Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
“We are looking forward to competing at SPIRE,” says coach Sean Cleary. “We had some nice performances last week and look to continue to progress.
“The level of competition will be second to none. We expect to come home with some improved marks.”
Last weekend, WVU participated at the Akron Invite in Akron, Ohio. Four different Mountaineers recorded personal-best marks.
Sophomore Hannah Stone continued her recent momentum in the high jump, registering her best jump as a Mountaineer with a height of 1.73 meters.
Senior Katlyn Shelar posted a season-best high jump with a mark of 3.97 meters, and senior Stormy Nesbit had her season-best long jump with a leap of 5.84 meters.
The Mountaineer 4x400 meter relay team of Jenna Barreto, Alyssa Scherich, Bria Welker and Christa D’Egido placed fifth, recording the best time for a WVU team in the event this season at 3:53.05.
The SPIRE Invite will begin on Friday, at 2 p.m., with the women’s pentathlon, and concludes on Saturday with the women’s triple jump scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Mountaineers return to Morgantown to host the WVU Gold/Blue next Saturday, Feb. 21, at the WVU Shell Building.
