MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team enters the 2013-14 postseason on top, as the team is ranked No. 1 in this week’s Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll for the fourth consecutive week.
The Mountaineers (10-0, 7-0 GARC), the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) regular-season champions, are the only team to boast a ranking’s average of 4700 or better. WVU owns an average of 4703.0. Averages for rankings are derived from a team’s top-three scores, with each score originating from a different range.
There is no change in this week’s top 10.
Alaska-Fairbanks ranks No. 2 with a 4698.67 average, while Kentucky is No. 3 with a 4695.67 average. Nebraska ranks No. 4 (4678.0), and Jacksonville State is No. 5 (4674.33).
Memphis and Army are No. 6 (4666.0) and No. 7 (4663.67), respectively, and Air Force is No. 8 (4660.67). Ohio State (4659.0) and TCU (4656.33) round out the top 10.
The Mountaineers open the postseason with an NCAA Qualifying match at Murray State’s Pat Spurgin Rifle Range on Saturday, Feb. 22.
