MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Four West Virginia women’s basketball players were honored by the Big 12 Conference today, as they were named to the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 team.
Senior forward Jess Harlee
, an industrial engineering major, was one of three total players in the league to have recognition for a 4.0 GPA. Beside Harlee on the first team is junior social work major Averee Fields
and senior Asya Bussie
, who is working toward a master’s degree in sport management. Sophomore guard Bria Holmes
earned second team honors, and is enrolled in general studies.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Harlee and Fields earn the first team recognition for the second time, while it is the first-career honor for in the Big 12 Conference for Bussie and Holmes.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA or have averaged at least a 3.0 GPA in the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years, and meet all the criteria with the exception of percentage of participation are also eligible.
The Mountaineers return to the court at 6 p.m. ET, on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Kansas State.
