MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team continues its 20-game season-opening road trip this weekend with the Caravelle Resort Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Mountaineers will face Duke on Friday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m., Coastal Carolina on Saturday, March 1 at 1:30 p.m. and James Madison on Sunday, March 2 at 1:30 p.m. All three games will be played at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
West Virginia carries a 2-4 record into the weekend, coming off a 1-2 performance last weekend at San Diego State.
Junior second baseman Billy Fleming
(.522) and senior first baseman Ryan McBroom
(.417) have each had a hit in every game this season to lead the Mountaineers offensively. McBroom leads WVU with two home runs and 10 RBIs.
Junior left-hander Harrison Musgrave
(1-0) will start for the Mountaineers on Friday against Duke. He was brilliant last Friday against San Diego State, pitching 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Musgrave will be opposed by Duke left-hander Trent Stewart (2-0), who has a 1.50 ERA and 16 strikeouts in two starts. Duke is led by infielder Chris Marconcini who has a .467 batting average, three doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs.
WVU junior right-hander Sean Carley
(0-0) will start Saturday's game against Coastal Carolina. Carley has yet to allow an earned run in 13.0 innings. Nine of his 14 strikeouts came at San Diego State last Saturday.
Coastal Carolina will counter with right-hander Tyler Herb, who is 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA in two starts this season. Outfielder Richard Carter leads the Chanticleers with a .455 batting average four runs and three RBIs.
Junior left-hander John Means
(1-1) will start against James Madison. Means had a rough outing last week in a loss to San Diego and came out after three innings.
James Madison has yet to name a starter, but the Dukes are led at the plate by outfielder Kevin Husum with a .438 batting average, two doubles, one triple and seven RBIs.
