MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia track and field team completed its first day of competition, today, at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Ames, Iowa.
Senior Katlyn Shelar
placed fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.95 meters. Shelar took three tries at her own school record of 4.10 meters, but fell just short.
Senior Stormy Nesbit
finished sixth in the long jump. Nesbit posted a season-best mark of 5.88 meters in the event. She improved on her eighth-place finish in the long jump at last season’s Big 12 Indoor Championships.
qualified for the final in the mile with a time of 4:47.48. Martinelli was less than a second off her personal-best time of 4:47.13 set earlier in the season. The Morgantown, W.Va., native will participate in the finals of the one mile tomorrow at 3:10 p.m., EST.
Freshman Amy Cashin
competed in the 1,000 meters, recording a personal-best time of 2:54.80. Cashin’s result was less than one second short of qualifying for the finals.
It was another personal-best mark in the 600 yards, as sophomore Alyssa Scherich
trimmed more than five seconds off her personal-best time set at last year’s conference championships with a time of 1:26.41
Day two of the competition will resume at noon, tomorrow, and conclude with the 4x400 meter relay around 6:30 p.m. A free, live stream of the event can be found at Big12Sports.com
